10 May
Summary
- Project MATE aims to enhance student wellbeing beyond academics.
- Over 60 schools in Delhi NCR will implement the program starting July 2026.
- Counsellors to undergo intensive training at AIIMS in May 2026.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in partnership with AIIMS New Delhi, has expanded Project MATE, an initiative focused on adolescent wellbeing. This program, originating from AIIMS's Department of Psychiatry, aims to integrate emotional, social, and psychological health with academic progress for middle-school students.
Project MATE will be implemented in over 60 CBSE schools across Delhi NCR starting July 2026, targeting students in Grades VI to VIII. The initiative includes classroom modules, peer support, and parent workshops. A significant component involves a five-day capacity-building training for school counsellors at AIIMS New Delhi, scheduled from May 11 to May 15, 2026.
During a recent conclave, participating schools shared experiences from the pilot phase. Master Trainers, identified from counselors with strong pilot-phase understanding, will mentor the program's next stage. An advisory board of AIIMS experts will guide Project MATE's continued expansion.
