Summary
- Production Park now has powers to run its own degree courses.
- The centre previously partnered with the University of Greater Manchester.
- New powers aim to shape the next generation of creative talent.

Production Park, a creative hub near Wakefield famously used for filming the Netflix hit 'Adolescence,' has received "game-changing" powers from the Office for Students. This educational regulator's approval allows the centre to independently offer degree courses, a role previously undertaken in partnership with the University of Greater Manchester. Founder Adrian Brooks anticipates this autonomy will empower the centre to "shape the next generation of creative talent."
The Academy of Live Technology at Production Park, established in 2011, has grown from seven students to 300. Its Head of Institution, Rachel Nicholson, stated that independence enables course design directly responsive to industry demands, ensuring education is "embedded in the industry." Students like Jasmine James and Nick Gunby expressed enthusiasm for having such specialized, industry-aligned courses available in Yorkshire.
The creative sector significantly contributes to the region's economy, generating approximately £2.3 billion annually. Regional leaders have ambitious plans to boost this figure to £4.1 billion by 2035 through initiatives like the Creative Industries Cluster Action Plan. Production Park's enhanced educational capabilities are poised to play a crucial role in achieving these economic growth targets.
