On October 3, 2025, the students and staff of the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School in Buffalo, New York, came together to surprise their beloved principal, Brianna Lanoye, with a touching wedding ceremony. Lanoye, who had dreamed of having her entire school community be a part of her special day, was led to believe it was just a typical school day until her colleague, assistant principal Courtney Champlin, presented her with a veil and a bouquet of white flowers.
To Lanoye's surprise, the school's courtyard had been transformed into a beautiful wedding venue, complete with an altar and flower arrangements. All of the students, from pre-K to 4th grade, were excitedly gathered there to witness Lanoye say "I do" to her fiancé, Zach. Champlin, along with Zach and other school staff members, had orchestrated the entire surprise ceremony for the beloved principal.
Lanoye was overwhelmed with joy and emotion, describing the moment as "one of the most touching" of her life. Student representatives from each grade joined a procession to walk the bride down the aisle, and a student even officiated the ceremony. The students also gave heartfelt speeches, expressing their gratitude and the impact Lanoye has had on their lives.
The bride and groom recited their vows and exchanged candy rings, and then there was a joyous celebration with dancing. Lanoye later celebrated her real wedding on October 12, 2025, which was also held on the school grounds, further solidifying the strong bond between the principal and her school community.
