The National Steering Committee has approved the inaugural strategic investment plan for the Visakhapatnam ITI Cluster in Andhra Pradesh. This pivotal decision, made under the Rs 60,000 crore PM-SETU scheme and proposed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, signifies a major milestone.
Andhra Pradesh has become the first state to operationalize an industry partnership within the PM-SETU framework. This initiative aims to transform Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into industry-managed, outcome-oriented institutions responsive to evolving workforce needs.
The scheme, a flagship government program, seeks to modernize 1,000 government ITIs via an industry-led Hub-and-Spoke model. It focuses on enhancing infrastructure, boosting industry engagement, improving employability, and establishing National Centres of Excellence to create a future-ready workforce.
With 32 states establishing their State Steering Committees, PM-SETU is entering a full-fledged, industry-led implementation phase. This progress indicates a deepening synergy between industry interests and state readiness for vocational training reforms.
