Piney Grove Elementary School's fifth-grade class is currently engaged in a shoe collection drive with a dual purpose: to subsidize an upcoming overnight field trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, and to provide economic assistance to individuals in developing nations. The collected shoes will be sent to Funds2Orgs, a social impact company that collaborates with schools to organize such drives. Participants are encouraged to donate new or gently worn shoes.
As of Wednesday, the drive had amassed 250 pairs of shoes towards its ambitious goal of 2,500 pairs. The fifth-grade trip, a long-standing tradition in March, offers an immersive learning experience in colonial history. Funds raised through the shoe drive will specifically assist students who might otherwise be unable to afford the trip.
Donations are being accepted at Piney Grove Elementary through October 9th. Additionally, a collection box will be available at the school's annual Fall Festival on September 26th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This initiative not only supports educational opportunities for local students but also empowers entrepreneurs in countries like Haiti, offering them a chance to earn income and improve their livelihoods.
