Palo Duro HS: From 'C' to 'A' with Leadership

Palo Duro High School has achieved its third consecutive 'A' rating from the Texas Education Agency, a remarkable turnaround from its previous 'C' classification. This sustained academic excellence, with scores above 91 for three consecutive years, underscores the school's successful transformation.

Principal Brandy Self attributes this success to a dedicated staff providing both interventions for struggling students and accelerated programs for high achievers. A core philosophy of collaboration, mutual respect, and equality across all departments, from academics to arts and athletics, has been instrumental.

The school actively embraces its diverse student population, including those with second languages, viewing this diversity as a strength. With 85.3% of students listed as economically disadvantaged and 32.4% as Emergent Bilingual according to TEA ratings, Palo Duro celebrates its student body as representative of the world.

Staff members express strong loyalty to Palo Duro, with many former students returning to teach. This deep-rooted connection, coupled with supportive leadership, fosters an environment where teachers feel empowered and students are encouraged to learn and succeed regardless of background.
