Google Classroom has expanded its integration with NotebookLM, an AI-powered learning tool, to empower students. Previously exclusive to teachers for creating study aids, this feature now allows students to generate their own personal class notebooks. This upgrade began rolling out on April 27 across desktop devices.
Students can easily create and edit these AI-generated digital study guides through the Gemini tab in Google Classroom. NotebookLM offers advanced features such as generating audio/video overviews, creating slide decks, and queuing up quizzes based on uploaded source documents. Each notebook can incorporate up to 50 sources, aiding students in exam preparation and coursework review.
The full rollout for participating students aged 18 and older is expected over the next few days, with a mobile version to follow in the coming weeks. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for higher education students, providing them with a powerful new method to deepen comprehension and retention of course content.
