- The building was originally planned to be 170 affordable homes.
- Bosworth Independent School purchased the property for a new boarding house.
A former student accommodation block in Northampton, the Bassett-Lowke Building, has been sold to Bosworth Independent School. The West Northamptonshire Council initially planned to convert the empty structure into 170 affordable homes. However, this proposal was deemed unviable in 2024, and the building was subsequently put up for sale.
Bosworth Independent School confirmed its purchase of the 248-bedroom property, formerly part of the University of Northampton. The school intends to transform the four-storey building into a boarding house. This acquisition is a significant milestone for the school as it approaches its 50th anniversary next year, expanding its boarding facilities to three.
The Bassett-Lowke Building is strategically located between two of the school's existing teaching facilities, the Newton Building and Bosworth Hall. Headteacher Tony Oulton stated that the school had been working towards this acquisition for some time, emphasizing the need for enhanced facilities to support its growing student community and maintain high educational standards.
