The Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'school theek karo' campaign encountered significant obstacles during its audit of government primary schools in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. At a school in Garhi Chaukhandi, inspectors found neglected facilities, including dirty toilets, broken gates, and an aging building constructed in 1968. A former library building was noted as severely dilapidated and unsafe.
Further inspections at four other schools in Sarfabad, Barola, and Sadarpur faced resistance. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das alleged that school gates were kept locked from the inside, despite students being present, with principals claiming instructions from senior government officials to deny entry. Das suggested this was an attempt to hide poor conditions.
However, the education department, represented by District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar, dismissed the allegations as false. Panwar stated that all schools in Gautam Budh Nagar district were operating as scheduled and denied any orders for closure. He explained that teachers were concerned about potential disruption and student distress caused by the presence of a large crowd, which led to the refusal of entry.
This confrontation is part of a larger nationwide campaign by CJP to conduct social audits of government schools. Previous audits in Maharashtra and Haryana have resulted in administrative actions, including suspensions, while inspections in Rajasthan and Maharashtra led to confrontations and legal challenges.
