NMC Cracks Down on Colleges Charging Illegal Student Fees
8 Apr
Summary
- NMC notified medical colleges about illegal fee collection practices.
- Institutions charged MBBS students for uninstructed academic periods.
- Colleges must reverse these fees or face disciplinary actions.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a stern notification targeting medical institutions that have been improperly charging MBBS students fees for extended periods. Specifically, colleges and universities are being scrutinized for collecting fees equivalent to five or five-and-a-half years of study.
The commission has clarified that this practice is not aligned with the established academic structure. Making students pay for months in which no instruction was provided is deemed unacceptable. Institutions found in violation are being instructed to cease this practice immediately and roll back the charges.
Failure to comply with the NMC's directive may result in sanctions against the offending medical colleges, institutions, and universities. This move aims to ensure academic and financial integrity within the medical education sector.
