NMC Clarifies MBBS Seat Recognition Rules
10 Jan
Summary
- Medical colleges need not submit separate recognition proposals.
- Annual renewal of MBBS seats is now considered recognition.
- Colleges must submit an Annual Disclosure Report and fee.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a pivotal advisory to medical colleges, simplifying the process for recognizing MBBS seats. It clarifies that the annual renewal of existing seats will now be officially considered as recognition under the current regulatory framework.
Previously, some medical colleges were submitting separate applications for recognition along with fees. However, as per the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023, this is no longer necessary. Colleges are now mandated to submit only the Annual Disclosure Report (ADR) and the requisite fee via the NMC portal, as directed.
Once MBBS seats undergo their annual approval or renewal, the permitted batch will be recognized for that specific academic year. Consequently, medical colleges or institutions running these courses will be deemed accredited for the qualification awarded, ensuring a clear and updated status for recognized medical education providers.
