A new school dedicated to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has received approval, set to open in Glastonbury Road, Bury St Edmunds. This new centre of excellence will be managed by the Eastern Education Group, with funding provided by the Department for Education.
The facility is designed to serve as a central hub for SEND guidance, accommodating 90 students aged between 14 and 19. Dr. Nikos Savvas of Eastern Education Group highlighted the project's potential for long-term positive impact on families.
Eastern Education Group has a proven track record in improving SEND schools. They plan to bring the same high standards and ambition to this new provision. The school will collaborate with mainstream schools to foster inclusive practices, enabling more young people to thrive locally.
This new school will be situated on the same site as Chalk Hill School, another project by Eastern Education Group, which is scheduled to open in Easter. Chalk Hill will occupy the former Horringer Middle School building, while the new SEND school will be constructed on an adjacent field. The approvals align with Suffolk County Council's SEND sufficiency plans, marking a significant step forward for SEND provision in the region.
