North Carolina State University's Department of Biological Sciences has apologized after hundreds of family members were reportedly unable to attend a graduation ceremony held on Friday, May 8. Attendees, some of whom had traveled significant distances, were denied entry to the event at Raleigh's William Neal Reynolds Coliseum.
Reports indicate that some guests arrived an hour before the ceremony, only to find the venue at its 5,500-person capacity. Despite invitations suggesting no RSVP or ticket was necessary, individuals were turned away. Some empty seats were observed inside the venue during the event.
Those denied entry were directed to watch a livestream of the ceremony online. The Department of Biological Sciences, along with the College of Sciences and the university, is reportedly collaborating to prevent similar issues at future commencement events.
