Nine North Carolina educators have been named regional Teachers of the Year, representing diverse areas across the state. These finalists were celebrated for their leadership, innovative teaching methods, and commitment to community service.
The selection process highlights educators who exemplify the best of public education, with their influence extending beyond their classrooms into mentorship and school-wide planning. The program, a collaboration between the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, has been recognizing educators since 1970.
One of these distinguished finalists will be awarded the title of 2026 North Carolina Teacher of the Year. This honor includes a year of service as a professional ambassador for the state's teachers and an advisory role to the State Board of Education. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony scheduled for April 24 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary.
