NU Exam Chaos: BTech Students Caught in Scheduling Nightmare
9 Jun
Summary
- BTech students face exam conflict due to university scheduling.
- University accepts fees and forms for conflicting exam dates.
- Students demand fee refunds or rescheduling for missed exams.

Confusion and resentment are brewing among BTech students at Nagpur University following a scheduling error that placed second and fifth-semester examinations on the same day and time. On June 8, both the second and fifth-semester CBCS engineering exams were slated for 9:30 am. This created a dilemma for backlog students who had been permitted to register and pay fees for both semesters. University officials stated that, under ATKT rules, students with second-semester backlogs should not be eligible for fifth-semester exams. However, students allege the university accepted their forms and fees, leading them to believe they could take both. Faced with the conflict, students were instructed to submit written applications for a re-exam of the fifth-semester paper, with assurances that it would be rescheduled. One student expressed disappointment, stating, "The least the NU could have done was to hold the exams in different time slots." Academician Anand Sah suggested that the university should refund fees if it cannot provide separate slots and implement better systems to prevent ineligible students from registering. Exam officials admitted a lack of a system to cross-check concurrent registrations for different semesters, attributing the issue partly to the late declaration of winter results, which expedited the summer exam form process without mandatory marksheets.
