Summary
- Dr J N Barua English School operated without mandatory government approval.
- School management and principal booked for cheating and forgery.
- Authorities ordered closure and student transfer to recognized institutions.

An FIR has been filed against the principal and management of Dr J N Barua English School in Kurla West for operating without mandatory government approval. The Vinobha Bhave Nagar police initiated the action following a complaint from the state education department, which had previously ordered the school's closure. The institution was found to be functioning in violation of the Maharashtra Self-Aided Schools (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2012 and its associated rules.
Principal Shahista Siddiqui and school management officials have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating, forgery, and disobedience of law. An education department sub-inspector's inspection on April 1 revealed that the school lacked any necessary government recognition or approval documents. The school was subsequently listed among 164 unrecognised institutions by the BMC's education department on April 17.
Authorities have issued a notice for the closure of this unauthorised school, stopping new admissions from the academic year 2026-27, and directing the transfer of current students to recognised institutions. The management is accused of cheating students and parents by continuing operations despite official directives and warnings of legal action.
