Summary
- MSU president accepts Clemson presidency role.
- Clemson offered a reception in June to welcome him.
- MSU offered a $2 million base salary to retain him.

Kevin Guskiewicz is departing Michigan State University to assume the presidency at Clemson University, a move finalized on Wednesday. Clemson's Board of Trustees selected Guskiewicz, acknowledging his significant contributions as an internationally recognized sports medicine researcher and his demonstrated leadership in higher education.
Officials at Clemson plan to host a campus reception in June to formally introduce Guskiewicz. This transition occurs shortly after MSU's Board of Trustees made a concerted effort to retain him. In a special meeting on May 17, they voted to negotiate a new contract that included a $2 million base salary, a $250,000 unvested employer award, and an extension through 2031.
Guskiewicz, who began his tenure as MSU's 22nd president in December 2023, arrived from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as chancellor. His departure from MSU comes after a period of significant leadership changes at the institution.
