Midlands School Strike Ends Amid Deal

Support workers at 14 schools within the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust have called off their industrial action. This move comes after a deal was struck with unions, ending strikes that began in April of last year. The agreement ensures the protection of pay and year-round contracts for numerous staff members, while also reversing some previously planned cuts. This resolution occurred shortly after the trust's chief executive stepped down last month, following a letter from MPs addressing significant concerns about job losses raised by parents and staff. The trust confirmed a deal was reached but provided no further details. Unison, the union involved, stated the agreement will protect jobs, restore key roles, and ensure staff voices are heard, reflecting the power of collective action by low-paid women. The trust operates 20 primary and five secondary schools across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Stockport.
