Summary
- Fourteen MBBS students suspended for harassing first-year students.
- Ragging incident reported in October, escalated through NMC.
- College faces inquiry and must submit action-taken report.
Fourteen second-year MBBS students at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Kamareddy have been suspended following an inquiry into a ragging complaint. The incident, which occurred in late October, involved the harassment of first-year students by their seniors. Four students are suspended for six months, and ten others for four months.
Officials confirmed that the college's anti-ragging committee investigated the matter after a complaint was escalated through the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS). The college principal noted that second-year students repeatedly bothered juniors, causing them mental distress.
The college is now preparing to submit a formal report detailing the actions taken against the suspended students to the NMC. Ragging is strictly prohibited by law and national regulations.
