Schools to Get Psychologists for Student Stress Relief
6 Dec
Summary
- Psychologists to be appointed in all schools to reduce student stress.
- A committee will develop a roadmap for stress management and online counselling.
- Supreme Court mandated states to reduce student stress by July 25.

The school education department in Maharashtra is set to appoint psychologists in every school to address rising student stress levels. A dedicated committee has been established to devise a comprehensive roadmap, including recommendations for stress management techniques and the development of an online counseling module.
This proactive measure is a direct response to a Supreme Court verdict on July 25, which mandated all states to implement strategies for reducing student stress. The committee, comprising education officials, health directors, and leading psychiatrists, has been given three months to submit its report.
Key objectives include identifying students facing psychological distress, providing immediate support, and developing training materials for teachers and parents. The initiative may also explore incentives for government teachers to pursue psychiatry studies and consider including helpline numbers in textbooks.
