For the 2025-26 academic year, Maharashtra has achieved full admission for its MBBS courses, leaving no seats vacant. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program also saw high demand, with only seven seats remaining unfilled after the conclusion of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) and stray admission rounds. This trend mirrors previous years, where MBBS seats are consistently filled to capacity.
Experts attribute the high demand for MBBS to its perceived superior career opportunities and social prestige. Consequently, BDS often serves as an alternative for candidates who do not secure an MBBS seat. This academic year, Maharashtra offered 8,535 MBBS seats across government and private institutions, alongside 2,718 BDS seats.
The Maharashtra CET Cell conducted multiple admission rounds to fill these seats. While government and private medical colleges reported minimal vacancies at the institutional level, the overall admission process saw a complete fill for MBBS and a near-complete fill for BDS, underscoring the enduring popularity of medical degrees in the state.
