Summary
- Selection committee interviews shortlisted candidates for LU Vice-Chancellor.
- Top scientists, IIM/IIT leaders, and serving VCs are among contenders.
- Governor will appoint the new VC from recommended names.

After a hiatus of over four months, Lucknow University is nearing the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor. The selection process will see shortlisted candidates interact with the search-cum-selection committee at Raj Bhavan this Saturday. A diverse pool of over two dozen applicants, comprising top scientists from premier IITs, individuals holding key positions in IIMs, and current vice-chancellors, are in contention for the prestigious role.
The interaction, scheduled to commence at 11 am, will involve candidates presenting their credentials and visions. The committee will then forward approximately five recommended names to the Governor, who, acting as the Chancellor, will make the ultimate decision. This protocol adheres to UGC regulations, prioritizing academic distinction and transparency in leadership selection.
Applications for the vacant post were invited on July 17, following the departure of the previous VC, Prof Alok Kumar Rai, to IIM-Kolkata. Prof Manuka Khanna has been serving as the officiating Vice-Chancellor since then. Sources indicate that a new appointment is anticipated by December this year, marking a significant transition for Lucknow University.
