German, Russian Courses Vanish from Lucknow University
12 Dec
Summary
- German and Russian language courses have been unavailable for nearly a decade.
- Qualified faculty for German and Russian languages cannot be found.
- Only French remains active, attracting over 150 students.

Once renowned for its foreign language offerings, Lucknow University has experienced a decade-long absence of German and Russian courses. This decline is attributed to a persistent shortage of qualified faculty. While French continues to thrive with more than 150 students enrolled in the English and modern European languages department, German and Russian have been discontinued.
The German language program, with 60 available seats across proficiency, diploma, and advanced diploma levels, has been significantly impacted. Similarly, the Russian master's course, last offered about ten years ago, has seen admissions halted despite previous student interest. The lack of interest from applicants has hindered the selection process for the single sanctioned faculty position in each language.
