Lucknow University Defies Own Ban, Builds Near Historic Lal Baradari

Lucknow University has found itself embroiled in a controversy after it violated its own ban on construction or activity within or near the historic 18th-century Lal Baradari. The over 200-year-old structure, which was once a hub of university activities, is now in a dilapidated condition.

Despite a clear warning from the university registrar against any construction near the fragile building, Lucknow University has gone ahead and built several walls in front of the Lal Baradari. This move has drawn sharp criticism from senior professors on campus, who argue that such construction work in close proximity can further damage the historical structure and potentially lead to its collapse, posing a threat to students, teachers, and staff.
