A Grade II listed farmhouse in Leicestershire is set to be repurposed as a special educational needs (SEN) school. Melton Borough Council has backed proposals from Include Education Ltd to develop the site off Welby Lane, near Melton Mowbray. The building, currently used as office space, will be transformed into a facility for 28 pupils and 14 staff members.
Council officers highlighted the plan as a sustainable reuse of a heritage asset, emphasizing the important community service it will provide. The school will operate with specific hours, allowing pupil access from 10:00 to 14:00 and staff from 09:00 to 15:00. Planning includes 14 parking spots and two drop-off points, with student transport arranged via private taxis or shared minibuses.
The developer detailed that the curriculum will be individualized, aligning with education, health, and care plans. It will combine academic progress with emotional literacy, social development, and essential life skills training for the students.
