Two teenage culinary talents, Connie and Noah from St Christopher's School in Accrington, have earned the prestigious title of Lancashire Young Chef of the Year. They triumphed at a competition hosted at Blackburn College.
The young chefs, aged 13 and 14, competed against students from eight schools across Lancashire. They were tasked with preparing a chicken-based main course and a seasonal dessert. Connie and Noah impressed the judging panel with their sophisticated dishes: a chicken roulade with Italian influences, served with spiralised potatoes, asparagus, and glazed carrots, followed by a classic lemon tart with meringue.
Celebrity chef Lisa Godwin-Allen of the Michelin-starred Northcote restaurant served as a judge. She commended the participants, noting the high caliber of skills displayed by the young individuals. The event took place in the recently upgraded Scholars Kitchen and Scholars Restaurant at Blackburn College, a facility that saw nearly £1 million invested in 2024.
This state-of-the-art training center aims to nurture the next generation of hospitality professionals. It features a fully functional restaurant, two kitchens, and a cafe, all operated by students who gain hands-on experience in every aspect of the industry, from culinary arts to front-of-house management.
