Kerala has introduced 'Digital Square,' an initiative to integrate technology into primary school classrooms and boost digital learning. Developed by KITE, the program is part of the state's 100-day action plan for education.
The initiative aims to strengthen digital literacy through classroom technology integration, promoting self-learning and creativity. It seeks to establish an inclusive digital learning environment for all students.
Government and aided primary schools will receive a FOSS-based software package featuring educational and creative applications. This package includes accessibility tools for visually impaired students and children with special needs.
Notable applications within the package include the GCompris educational suite, the e-Cube language-learning tool, and software for music, painting, and animation. This introduction to digital concepts begins at the primary level.
Alongside Digital Square, Kerala launched Cyber Safety Protocol 2026, Tharapadham for learning outcome monitoring, and the School Wiki-thon campaign. Plans also include expanding Little KITEs IT clubs to upper primary schools.
