Kent State University's College of Public Health is set to broaden its community health and outreach programs, including the Mobile Flashes initiative, due to a substantial $1.75 million contribution from the Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation. This significant gift, received by May 2026, will enable the expansion of services into underserved and rural areas of Northeast Ohio.
The Mobile Flashes program, established in 2024, dispatches multidisciplinary student teams to provide essential health services, screenings, and education in collaboration with local partners. These efforts are designed to rebuild community-based services and support public health initiatives.
Since February 2024, over 50 Kent State students have participated in more than 100 community events across six counties, delivering over 1,500 hours of service and reaching approximately 10,000 individuals. The foundation has supported Kent State's College of Public Health since 2021, contributing over $2.1 million in total.
This partnership exemplifies how foundations and universities can collaborate to improve community well-being. The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation, founded in 1939, has a mission focused on advancing healthcare quality and access, particularly for underserved populations in the Greater Cleveland area.
