Kashmiri Students Held After Self-Immolation Attempt

Seventeen Kashmiri students studying at Mewar University in Chittorgarh district were arrested on Monday. The arrests followed an alleged attempt by the students to self-immolate during a protest. These students, along with others from Rajasthan, had been holding a demonstration since February 17.
Their protest centered on the alleged lack of recognition for the BSc Nursing course offered by the university. On the day of the incident, protesters blocked faculty from entering classrooms. Police arrived on the scene and intervened, preventing the students from carrying out their self-immolation attempt.
Authorities registered a case against the 17 students on charges including obstruction of government work and attempted self-immolation. Additional police forces had already been deployed to the university campus in anticipation of the protest.
