Karnataka SSLC Exams Kick Off: Over 8.6 Lakh Students Appear
18 Mar
Summary
- Over 8.6 lakh students are appearing for SSLC exams starting Wednesday.
- First language tests for SSLC exams are being conducted on the first day.
- Re-examination fee for failing students has been abolished to ease financial burden.

More than 8.6 lakh students commenced their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations on Wednesday across Karnataka. The initial day of testing focused on the first language paper, with students choosing from options including Kannada, English, Hindi, and others. These exams are being administered in 2,871 centers statewide.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah extended his best wishes to the students, encouraging them to approach the exams with confidence. He highlighted that failing or achieving low marks would not be a final setback, as there are provisions for re-examination. Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced the abolition of re-examination fees for students who do not pass, a measure aimed at alleviating financial stress.
This initiative mirrors the parent-teacher meeting models seen in private institutions, now being successfully implemented in government schools to foster better student support. While the results are tentatively expected around April 24th, an official confirmation is still pending.
