AYUSH Counseling Delayed, Students Face Dilemma

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is facing further delays in conducting counseling for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) courses, as the Department of Ayush has not yet submitted the required seat matrix. This situation has caused considerable anxiety among students and parents who are awaiting admission to these programs.
The seat allocation for other professional courses, including engineering, has progressed to its final stages. KEA has repeatedly requested the seat matrix from the Department of Ayush without receiving an adequate response, leading to numerous inquiries from concerned students and parents.
For the 2025-26 academic year, Karnataka had 121 AYUSH colleges with 8,945 seats, of which 7,950 were filled through KEA. Currently, the third round of CET seat allotment for 2026-27 is complete, and other admissions are underway. The NEET second round seat allotment also commenced on September 7, with admissions concluding by September 14, which is also the last date for engineering course admissions.
Many students admitted provisionally to engineering or dental science courses are AYUSH aspirants. They are worried about potential penalties and the non-refund of fees if they cancel their current admissions to pursue AYUSH, especially since classes for other courses begin soon. The delay in AYUSH counseling threatens to push back the academic calendar for these students.
Sources indicate that the delay stems from the Ayush Department awaiting approval from the Union Ministry of AYUSH regarding the seat matrix, seat enhancements, and other related matters. This governmental bottleneck is directly impacting the students' academic future.
