29 Oct
Summary
- Schools must form committees to identify and list e-waste.
- Designated collection boxes A, B, and C will be used for e-waste.
- Proper disposal of e-waste is crucial to prevent environmental harm.

An awareness and training workshop for school eco club in-charges was inaugurated on Thursday in Kanniyakumari, aimed at promoting environmental protection and sustainable development. District Collector M. Prathap emphasized the importance of safeguarding the district's natural resources, noting its significant forest cover despite high population density.
Schools are now required to establish committees to identify and catalog e-waste generated within their premises. These committees will maintain registers and upload relevant information to the ecoclubs.education.gov.in website. Three distinct collection boxes—A, B, and C—will be set up for specific types of e-waste, including mobile phones, batteries, and larger appliances.
The Collector highlighted the environmental risks associated with improper e-waste disposal, stressing the necessity of utilizing authorized recycling agencies. This initiative seeks to foster environmental responsibility among students and ensure the safe management of electronic waste across Kanniyakumari's educational institutions.
