21 Jan
Summary
- JEE Main 2026 Session 1 started on January 21.
- Physics and Chemistry sections were moderate, math was lengthy.
- Exams are crucial for NIT, IIIT, and CFTI admissions.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) initiated the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 on Wednesday, January 21, with examinations taking place at numerous centers both within India and internationally. The initial feedback suggests a moderate overall difficulty level for the exam. Physics and Chemistry sections were reported to be balanced and consistent with NCERT guidelines, whereas the Mathematics section maintained its reputation for being lengthy and demanding extensive calculations.
The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 is scheduled to continue throughout the upcoming week. This examination is the principal pathway for students seeking admission into undergraduate engineering courses at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Strict security protocols and biometric verification were enforced at all testing venues to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
In the first shift, Physics was perceived as the most accessible section, with many questions based on formulas from topics like Electromagnetism and Mechanics. Chemistry also focused heavily on Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, with direct questions from NCERT, while Mathematics presented the most significant challenge due to its lengthy solution steps. The exam format requires students to attempt 75 out of 90 questions, with a mix of MCQs and mandatory numerical value questions.
