In a significant development, the Department of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has launched an advanced diploma course on child guidance and counselling. The two-semester program, which is accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), was inaugurated on November 14, 2025.
The initiative received unwavering support and guidance from the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mazhar Asif, and the JMI Registrar, Prof Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, who provided assistance throughout the accreditation process and in organizing the orientation. During the inauguration, Prof. Rizvi emphasized the importance of faith in maintaining mental health, noting that belief in higher powers can help reduce anxiety and stress.
Prof. Samina Bano, the Head of the Department, and Prof. Sheema Aleem, the Diploma Coordinator, expressed profound gratitude to the university's leadership for their support. They are hopeful that the students will serve as proud ambassadors for the university and the new program, which is designed to prepare professional counsellors and uphold high standards in the field.
The Orientation Program featured distinguished resource persons who conducted insightful sessions on various critical issues related to child development, protection, mental health, and substance abuse. This unique course is set to make a significant impact in addressing the growing need for specialized child guidance and counselling services in India.
