Indore RTE Seats Empty: Thousands of Spots Unfilled
5 Jul
Summary
- Over 4,000 RTE seats remain vacant in Indore's private schools.
- Nearly 44% of RTE reserved seats are unfilled after two admission rounds.
- A third admission round is underway for eligible applicants in Indore.
In Indore, a significant number of seats designated for the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools remain vacant. As of July 5, 2026, over 4,000 seats are unfilled after two rounds of admissions for the 2026-27 academic year.
Despite receiving 12,936 applications for 9,029 RTE seats, only 5,040 students have secured admission, leaving nearly 44% of these spots vacant. The district education department has initiated a third round of counselling, with preferences to be updated by July 8.
Officials cited rejected applications due to invalid documents as a major reason for the vacancies. The first round saw high admission rates, but the second round had a much lower response, with many allotted students not completing the process.
The third round, commencing with a draw on July 10, is open only to previously registered and verified applicants. Reporting and admission formalities for the allotted students will occur between July 11 and July 20, aiming to fill the remaining seats.
