NEET Crisis Delays Admissions Across India
12 Jun
Summary
- States seek one-month extension for technical course admissions deadline.
- Admission deadlines delayed due to CBSE revaluation and NEET re-exam.
- Allied health course admissions begin before medical admissions.

Technical course admissions across India face significant delays, prompting states like Tamil Nadu to seek a one-month extension from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The original deadline for admissions to technical courses with vacancies was August 14, with classes set to begin on August 1. This delay stems from ongoing issues with the revaluation of CBSE Class XII answer scripts and the NEET re-examination. The engineering rank list, expected on June 29, is dependent on the CBSE revaluation results. These marks will be directly communicated to the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee for candidate ranking. Meanwhile, the state selection committee will initiate admissions for allied health courses, including nursing, physiotherapy, and optometry, ahead of medical admissions. The central government has exempted these allied health courses from NEET this year. Experts caution that delays in medical admissions could lead students to block allied health seats as a fallback, potentially creating artificial vacancies and impacting genuine aspirants.
