Telegram Restricted in India Amid NEET Exam Fears
16 Jun
Summary
- NTA supports temporary Telegram restrictions to stop exam fraud.
- Ban aims to prevent cheating networks exploiting the platform.
- Telegram access blocked until June 22; editing feature disabled.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced its support for temporary restrictions on Telegram access within India. This decision aims to prevent examination fraud and the spread of misinformation leading up to the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, scheduled for June 21. The NTA recommended these measures to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
MeitY has implemented a temporary block on Telegram in India, effective until June 22. Additionally, the platform's message-editing feature will be disabled until June 30. These actions are specifically intended to thwart organized cheating networks that might exploit Telegram to disseminate false claims about question paper leaks and to deceive students participating in the crucial medical entrance examination.
