IIT Madras and Delhi University have launched significant awareness campaigns aimed at bolstering the mental well-being and happiness of their students.
As part of its commitment, IIT Madras organized a week-long observance titled 'PREM - Parents' Role in Encouraging and Mentoring.' This initiative included interactive online sessions specifically for parents, providing guidance on understanding students' needs, communicating effectively, and supporting their emotional and mental health during higher education. These sessions were scheduled around World Suicide Prevention Day, observed on September 10.
Concurrently, Delhi University is hosting a national conference themed "Science Meets Social Science: Mental Well-Being and Happiness." This event delves into interdisciplinary approaches to foster happiness and human flourishing, acknowledging the increasing prevalence of stress, anxiety, and academic pressures among young people.
The conference, organized by the Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council (RIEC), aims to broaden the understanding of mental health as a crucial component of a healthy society. Experts and academics will discuss contemporary challenges, emotional resilience, and collective happiness, exploring factors like mindfulness, spirituality, and social relationships that influence well-being.
