The academic year 2024-25 at IIT Bombay has seen a notable shift in campus placements. While the overall placement rate decreased to 70% with 1,422 accepted offers, a significant increase in salary packages was recorded. The average annual salary climbed to Rs 26.45 lakh, and the median salary reached Rs 20 lakh, both representing a rise of over 10% from the previous year.
This recruitment landscape reflects global economic uncertainties, leading some companies to extend fewer offers. International placements also saw a decline, with offers dropping from 78 to 65. Despite these trends, compensation remained robust, with nearly half of all accepted offers falling into the Rs 20 lakh and above bracket.
Engineering and technology fields dominated recruitment, followed closely by IT software and coding companies. Consulting, data analytics, and finance sectors also contributed significantly to the placement numbers. BTech students achieved the highest placement rate at 81.79%, with Computer Science and Engineering being a top-performing department.
The institute noted that some students opted for alternative career paths such as entrepreneurship, higher studies, or research, particularly among PhD scholars, contributing to the dip in traditional placement numbers.
