22 Feb
Summary
- AI will reduce assessment grading time from weeks to just one or two days.
- Professors will retain final review authority over AI-evaluated work.
- AI proficiency may become a required skill for students in future evaluations.

The Indian Institute of Management-Nagpur (IIM-Nagpur) is on the cusp of a significant academic overhaul, poised to implement Artificial Intelligence for evaluating student assignments and projects. This technological advancement is set to dramatically reduce the current two-week grading period to an efficient one to two days.
Director Bhimaraya Metri indicated that IIM-Nagpur is actively exploring AI solutions to expedite assessments and streamline academic functions. While AI will accelerate the initial evaluation, human professors will conduct a final review to ensure the thoroughness and accuracy of grades. This ensures that unique or exceptionally insightful answers are appropriately recognized.
The institute plans to transition examinations and submissions to online platforms to facilitate AI analysis. These systems will scan responses, identify key elements, and assign preliminary marks. Beyond grading, IIM-Nagpur is considering providing students and faculty with direct access to advanced AI tools for academic and research purposes.
Furthermore, the institution is emphasizing the importance of responsible AI use, with faculty employing AI detection tools to ensure originality. Metri highlighted that mastering AI, including prompt engineering and creative application, may soon be integrated into future evaluation criteria. This initiative underscores a broader shift in management education, preparing future leaders for an AI-integrated business landscape.
