CCTV Cameras Target Dangerous School Parking in Hull
24 Feb
Summary
- CCTV cameras installed outside four Hull primary schools last month.
- Fines of £70, reduced to £35 if paid promptly, are now in effect.
- A trial scheme last year saw a 72% reduction in parking restriction abuse.

Illegal parking outside Hull primary schools is now subject to fines, following the installation of CCTV cameras at four schools. The new penalties were introduced as pupils returned from a half-term break. Last year, a trial at Parkstone Primary School reportedly reduced parking violations by 72%.
Parents have expressed mixed reactions. While some welcome the cameras due to observed dangerous driving, like reversing over pedestrian crossings, others suggest more dedicated parking spaces are needed for parents travelling from further afield. The schools included are Parkstone Primary, Victoria Dock Primary, St Richard's Voluntary Catholic Academy, Wold Academy, and Francis Askew Primary School.
Violators face a £70 fine, which is reduced to £35 if paid quickly. Councillor Mark Ieronimo stated the council is collaborating with schools and parents to ensure buy-in for safety reasons, indicating a willingness to adjust camera placement for effectiveness.
