Two young children managed to leave MacGregor Elementary School in Houston's Museum District last Wednesday, prompting significant concern from parents and district officials. One mother reported that her daughter and another student were discovered several blocks away from the school after they were supposed to be using the restroom.
The district confirmed that an employee supervising the children has been placed on administrative leave. Additionally, campus administrators conducted a staff reset to re-emphasize and reinforce established procedures, aiming to prevent any future occurrences of students leaving campus unsupervised. The children were found unharmed by a stranger who contacted the police.
One of the children has a hip disability, making extended walking difficult and painful. The mother expressed her emotional distress over the incident, stating she is now unenrolling her daughter to find a safer educational environment. Child Protective Services confirmed they received a report and will share their findings.
