Schools Fuel Futures: Students Launch Coffee Shop
11 Jun
Summary
- John Marshall High School is opening a coffee shop called 'Rocket Fuel Shop'.
- The project reinvests surplus funds from the food services fund.
- Students gain work experience in food safety, marketing, and retail.

John Marshall High School students will soon be able to fuel their mornings with coffee from their very own "Rocket Fuel Shop," opening this fall. This new venture is the first of its kind, with plans to expand to Century and Mayo high schools.
The project is being funded by a significant surplus in the school district's food services fund, which ended fiscal year 2025 with nearly $9 million. This surplus is being reinvested into operational upgrades, staffing, and food purchases, including the coffee shop.
Beyond providing beverages and snacks, the "Rocket Fuel Shop" is designed to offer students practical expertise. A graphic design class has already created a logo, and students will gain experience in food safety, marketing, and retail operations.
Mayo High School will see its coffee shop installation in the summer of 2028 as part of a larger renovation project. Century High School's coffee outlet will be discussed as part of the district's long-term facility planning.
