31 Oct
Summary
- Haryana orders medical colleges to release MBBS graduates' original documents.
- Policy allows doctors to pursue PG while fulfilling bond service obligations.
- Graduates' PG study period counts towards the required five-year bond service.
Haryana's government has directed four state-run medical colleges to release original documents for MBBS graduates who have secured postgraduate seats. This order impacts approximately 300 doctors who faced the risk of losing their admissions due to the state's bond policy. The directive, issued following a report in The Times of India, allows these graduates to pursue MD and MS courses.
The policy, notified in December 2022, applies to students admitted from 2020-21 onwards. Graduates will now receive their original certificates after signing an undertaking to complete their remaining government service within three months of finishing their postgraduate studies. Crucially, the time spent pursuing postgraduate education will count towards the mandatory five-year bond service.
This measure aims to ensure doctors serve in public institutions. The state government is also initiating contractual appointments for eligible graduates, offering them a choice between joining government service or opting out by paying the bond amount. Colleges have been instructed to expedite the document release process, with strict deadlines for reporting to the government.
