Students from Hampton Academy's Experiential Learning and Inspire Programs recently engaged in a hands-on culinary experience at The Culinary Playground in Derry. This educational outing, organized by school administrators and special education faculty, was designed to offer students practical cooking skills while fostering teamwork and collaboration.
The aspiring young chefs had the opportunity to vote on their menu, ultimately preparing a turkey and cheese sandwich on homemade pretzel rolls with cranberry mayonnaise, seasoned pita chips, and dirt pudding cups for dessert. Throughout the activity, they practiced crucial life skills such as accurate measuring, heat management, and following recipes, directly applying concepts from math and science.
Beyond culinary techniques, the students honed their communication abilities, attention to detail, and understanding of food safety protocols. This foundational experience is expected to significantly benefit their futures, equipping them with both professional and collaborative skills as highlighted by school officials.
