On October 15th, 2025, a government school teacher in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh attempted suicide over alleged harassment by a local education official. Shokendra Yadav, a teacher posted at Bhadokhar Bhadokhari Primary School, consumed poison at his rented residence after claiming the Block Education Officer (BEO), Rajesh Kumar, had deliberately withheld his salary and ignored repeated requests to reinstate it.
Despite sending messages, including one on WhatsApp urging the officer to release his salary before Diwali, Yadav received no response. In a subsequent message, he reportedly threatened to end his life if the issue remained unresolved. Locals rushed Yadav to a private hospital, from where he was shifted to the district medical college and is currently under treatment.
The district administration has taken cognizance of the matter, with the District Magistrate of Siddharthnagar ordering a detailed inquiry and forming a three-member probe committee headed by the Additional District Magistrate to investigate the allegations of workplace harassment and salary irregularities. The incident has sparked widespread concern among teachers in the district, highlighting growing tensions between educators and administrative officers over salary delays and alleged bureaucratic apathy.
