- A new time capsule was created to preserve current school life.
Gordon Bell High School marked its centennial anniversary with a ceremony that included the opening of a time capsule from 1960. Two students revealed historical items such as teacher salary schedules and school documents from six decades ago. The event drew over 100 attendees, primarily former students, to the gymnasium.
As part of the celebration, a new time capsule, constructed by the school's metal shop students, was unveiled and filled. This modern capsule includes letters, photographs, commitments to truth and reconciliation, and a school watch, capturing the current spirit and activities of Gordon Bell. Principal Tanis Westdal noted the personal stories and current energy preserved within the new capsule.
The ceremony also honored Mike Gaston, a former teacher who dedicated nearly 40 years to the school, by renaming the gymnasium in his memory. Additional anniversary events, including school tours and a social gathering, were scheduled for Friday evening and Saturday.
