Toby Hayward, a former student of Grange Academy, has successfully completed a challenging 51-mile trek to raise funds for his alma mater. Having attended the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school from age 11 due to dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and ADHD, Toby now views these as strengths. He felt he was "falling behind" before Grange Academy provided a supportive learning environment.
Toby's recent ultra-endurance event, 'Summit for Grange,' took place through the Lake District, covering 83km in 16 hours. The funds raised have been instrumental in supporting the school's farm, enabling the purchase of a new pygmy goat and covering other essential operating costs. The farm is a vital resource for pupils' wellbeing and practical education.
Rachel Timms, headteacher of Grange Academy, emphasized the farm's importance in building pupil confidence and preparing them for life. Toby's initiative ensures these invaluable opportunities can continue for current students, demonstrating the lasting impact of his education and his commitment to giving back.
