As of August 17, 2025, Sangeeta Dey, a 45-year-old homemaker from Kolkata, has proven that it's never too late to pursue your dreams. Sangeeta, who had paused her studies in 1996 after her Madhyamik exams, resumed her education in 2019 and has now completed her graduation with a remarkable 75% marks.
What's even more inspiring is that Sangeeta accomplished this feat alongside her 21-year-old daughter, Saheli, who scored an impressive 80% in the same exams. The duo, who studied together throughout their BA program at Maharaja Manindra Chandra College, now plans to take their educational journey further by pursuing a master's degree in journalism and mass communication at Calcutta University.
Sangeeta's determination and hard work are truly admirable. Over the past three years, she has woken up early every day to cook for her family, teach five neighborhood children, and then attend college. In addition to her studies, she also finds time to learn music and participate in a local drama group, as well as take up tailoring gigs to support her family.
Saheli, who is equally impressed by her mother's achievements, says she never felt any competition between them. Instead, she considers Sangeeta as her "first friend" and is blessed to have studied alongside her. The mother-daughter duo has set an inspiring example for others, proving that age is just a number when it comes to chasing your dreams.
