12 Aug
Summary
- Idli with sambar will be served in Delhi government schools soon.
- Revised PM-POSHAN menu includes idli sambar and wheat flour.
- New menu items replace ragi halwa and vegetable daliya starting August 24.

Students in Delhi government schools will soon enjoy idli with sambar as a new addition to their meals. The Directorate of Education has mandated its introduction by August 24, as part of an updated PM-POSHAN menu. This revised menu also replaces ragi halwa with wheat flour and chana masala, and vegetable daliya with jowar and bajra.
The changes stem from recommendations by a Meal Review Committee, which considered stakeholder feedback and implementation experiences. The new six-day menu includes dishes like poori with black chana gravy, rice with chhole, rice with dal, and rice with kadhi. While most of the menu takes effect immediately, idli with sambar has a two-week transition period due to specific preparation requirements.
Implementing agencies must adhere to nutritional guidelines and food safety standards. Zonal and district education officers will oversee compliance through inspections and food sampling. Agencies failing to meet the new menu and timeline standards may face disciplinary action.
